About the project

Libre by Abbott is a continuous glucose monitoring app that helps people living with diabetes track their glucose. It works with FreeStyle Libre sensors and is available across iOS, Android, and Apple Watch.

This is a large product built by many people. My part of it is mobile engineering: taking features from the first requirements and questions all the way to implementation, automation, documentation, and support.

End-to-end feature work

I analyze the given requirements, talk and coordinate with the teams involved, and do technical spikes that can eventually become epics. From there, I develop the feature, review the details with the right people, document the work, and help it move through testing.

Working across a multinational team and several time zones means that communication is part of the engineering. A feature is not only the code that lands in one repository. It also includes the dependencies, the questions that need an answer, and making sure other teams can continue their part of the work.

Mobile, native code, and connected devices

Most of my work is in React Native, but the application reaches further into React, iOS, Android, and native code. I also work with Go libraries compiled into C, BLE devices, and Apple Watch connectivity.

I review pull requests across the React Native, React, and native codebases. I care a lot about the UI and usability of the app, so my reviews and bug fixing are not only about making the code pass. The result should make sense for the person using it.

Automation and internal tools

I support QA engineers with the development of automation and write mobile automation tests using Robot Framework and Appium. I also create internal tools for repetitive work and use agentic AI workflows for mobile development.

Automation is useful when it gives the team more confidence and more time to focus on the difficult parts. It still needs to be understandable and reliable, otherwise it becomes another thing the team has to work around.

Helping the team

I help junior developers understand and navigate through their assigned work, review their pull requests, and provide context when a task crosses parts of the app they have not worked with before.

I’m also a reliable source for difficult bug fixing. I care about doing things right, not only making things work.
